New Spoiler on.....Looks good, but....

I just got finished installing my new spoiler. I bought it from another forum member for a great price. I got it back from the paint shop yesterday and they did a nice job. Needs to be buffed out in some places, but overall they did a good job.

It is made by Carbon by Design. Beware if you buy this spoiler. I think it looks great, but it definitely was not easy to work with. The first thing I noticed after buying it was that the finish on it is very rough and requires extra prep work before paint which requires a little more money. It had some imperfections that needed to be smoothed over. Then while installing it, the holes did not match up with the trunk. I was barely able to get it on. The last hole was about 1/8-1/4 inch off so I had to dremel the trunk hole out a little to get it on. The others went on, but took some major negotiating and help from a friend.

Just wanted to share my experience with this. I've done a few other spoilers in the past on some other cars and they were just made much better than this one with flawless fitment. I like this one a lot and I would still do it all over again, but I'm hoping they have cleaned up their manufacturing/design process a bit to fix the issues I had with it.

here are some pics:

No the trunk doesn't open anymore. Is that bad? JK It's not that big honestly. Maybe because the stock one is so tiny.

I like the look of that one from the back but I'm not a fan of how much it overlaps onto the trunk and fenders.

Carbon by Design came out with a revised one after that initial release that wasn't quite so big.

Since it is one piece, it must sit just above the quarter right? if so, let us know if your quarter panel starts getting scratched on top. My buddy put something simular on his wifes jetta, and it is scratching her quarter panel from vibrating on top of it. now when she opens the truck, it is scratched there.

TAG UR IT, thanks you very much. I appreciate that. I am really happy with it.

It's only been on since last night so I can't say for sure that it will not rub, but I really don't think it will. Yes, the sides are elevated to clear the quarter panels. The material doesn't have much flex to it and for it to push down that much from the vibration or air pressure seems pretty difficult. I'll definitely keep you posted.

I have the same spoiler but through Unrestricted Motorsports and it had to have some prep work done also (was wavy). One of my bolt holes was off as well and instead of redrilling a hole in my trunk lid, I just left one bolt out. Anyone considering either of these, be aware that you cannot stripe these with vinyl due to the bends and curves in it. I took mine to the guy that put my rally stripes on and he said no problem until he tried. I have been to three car wrap companies as well and they said it could not be done. I am in the process of striping it off now and ordered paint from TCP - Hot Rod Flatz.

You're welcome.

Any updates? Holding up okay so far?

That is very common for fiberglass or carbon fiber parts to need work like that, its pretty much standard, you get what comes out of the mold and the rest of the work is up to you.

It's holding up very well and I'm still really happy with it. No rubbing on the quarter panels whatsoever.

This is the 3rd aftermarket spoiler I've put on a car and the 2 prior ones were in no need of prep work like this one. All in all it wasn't that big of a deal so it's all good. My only real gripe is how off the mounting holes were. From what I've heard from others they've corrected this.
